May is National Speech-Language and Hearing Month, and at Variety Child Learning Center our awesome team of Speech-Language Pathologists put together a fun-filled month of activities to showcase the power of communication.

Each week staff members were invited to participate in fun games and challenges to help spread awareness about the programs VCLC offers in support of our Speech Language Pathologists and the work they do year-round. Weekly prizes were presented and creativity was showcased.

Some of this year’s program highlights include the addition of multiple new speech therapists; the introduction of Instructional Core communication picture boards, made up of foundational words used daily; providing 80 students with access to alternative communication devices – almost double the amount from last year; and Variety’s first AAC evaluations.

The SLPs at VCLC always go above and beyond for our students, advocating for them to ensure they have access to communication, following up with the school districts to ensure their needs are met in the classrooms and connecting with and including families in the education and development of their children, even offering Mommy and Me classes on the weekends.

This year we also were thrilled to add communication boards to all of our school playgrounds and throughout the schools, making communication more accessible for children and the staff no matter where they are on campus.

Thank you to our amazing Speech Language Pathologists for everything they do to help our students be heard and understood. Whether it’s helping a child express their ideas or making sure every student can experience the sounds of learning, they truly make a difference every day.
