Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.

Variety Child Learning Center (VCLC) is seeking a compassionate, organized, and dependable Student Health Support & Operations Assistant to help ensure the health, safety, and smooth daily operation of our school. This unique role combines student health support, transportation coordination, and front office responsibilities in a collaborative, child-centered environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate student transportation and assist with safe arrival and dismissal procedures.
  • Communicate with families, staff, and transportation providers regarding schedule changes and transportation needs.
  • Serve as a Medication Administration Trained (“MAT”-certified) staff member (or obtain certification) to support medication administration and student health needs in accordance with New York State regulations.
  • Monitor student wellness, maintain health documentation, and respond appropriately to health-related situations.
  • Provide professional front desk coverage during the aftercare program by greeting visitors, answering phones, and ensuring building security.
  • Support daily school operations by assisting administrators, teachers, and staff as needed.
  • Help create a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for students, families, and colleagues.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
  • Experience working with children, preferably in a school or early childhood setting.
  • MAT Certification (or willingness to obtain), along with First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and compassionate in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a school environment. Activities usually take place in the classroom, gym, outside on a playground, or parking lot, or in special activity rooms. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computer, iPads, SmartBoards.

Physical Demands:

This role may be physically demanding. The employee is required to be non-sedentary. Must be able to stand, run, walk, sit, bend climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch. The employee must be able to lift and carry up to an average pre-school-age child (35 pounds) and a school-age child (50 pounds).
