Variety Child Learning Center (VCLC) is a 4410 not-for-profit agency providing quality educational and therapeutic services to young children with disabilities. We are actively recruiting candidates for the Maintenance Worker position at our East Northport location.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform general maintenance duties including painting, minor repairs, furniture assembly, moving furniture and equipment, and basic plumbing repairs
  • Complete routine cleaning and sanitation tasks as requested, including sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, washing walls, windows, and floors, dusting, emptying wastebaskets, and disposing of trash and recyclables
  • Restock and replace facility supplies including light bulbs, paper towels, soap, and related materials
  • Support building upkeep and cleanliness to help maintain a safe, functional, and welcoming school environment
  • Assist with snow and ice management, including clearing walkways and applying salt or sand to sidewalks and parking areas as needed (VCLC works with the N-ENP school district for major snow removal; however, maintenance staff are responsible for keeping entrances and pathways safe and accessible)
  • Respond to day-to-day facility needs and perform additional duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Director of Facilities

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Prior maintenance, custodial, or building operations experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of general repairs, cleaning procedures, and facility upkeep
  • Ability to work independently and respond to maintenance needs in a timely manner
  • Reliable, organized, and able to follow direction

Work Environment:
This position works in a school-based early childhood setting serving young children with disabilities. The Maintenance Worker will work throughout classrooms, offices, hallways, bathrooms, kitchens, outdoor play areas, parking lots, and building grounds. The role may involve exposure to cleaning products, dust, dirt, varying temperatures, and outdoor weather conditions, particularly during snow or ice removal. The position requires regular interaction with staff, children, families, and outside vendors while maintaining a safe and professional presence in an active educational environment.

Physical Demands: This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling throughout the workday. The Maintenance Worker must be able to lift and move equipment, furniture, supplies, and materials, and perform physically demanding tasks both indoors and outdoors. The role also requires the ability to use standard maintenance and cleaning equipment safely and effectively, and to respond to building needs in a timely manner.
